Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs Google Pixel 6 Pro: It’s always a tricky situation when you have to pick between two premium phones from big companies. The Galaxy S22 Ultra from Samsung is spot on but so is the Pixel 6 Pro from Google.

But, anytime there are two phones on the table with the option to pick one, you have to go for the better phone. Now we have the Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra on the table, between these two phones which is better and why? Well, let’s find out.

Display and Design

The displays of both phones are similar in some ways but also different in some ways. Let’s start with the similarities. The display of both phones is curved on both sides, both use AMOLED panel has support for 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and QHD+ resolution. Now to the differences.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with a bigger 6.8-inch display size while the Pixel 6 Pro features a smaller 6.71-inch. Aside from size, another difference is the brightness. The display of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is brighter than that of the Pixel 6 Pro.

When it comes to design, both phones are very similar. Same curved edge display and center punch hole. But, the bezels of the Galaxy S22 Ultra are slightly slimmer than that of the Pixel 6 Pro. Both phones have similar display quality but the Galaxy S22 Ultra takes it up a notch with its bigger and brighter screen

Camera

The camera is an important part of smartphones and the Google Pixel 6 Pro comes ready. It features a triple rear camera set up: a 50MP main camera, a 48MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Upfront it comes with an 11.1MP selfie camera.

While the Galaxy S22 Ultra features a quad rear camera set up: a 108MP main camera, a 10MP periscope telephoto lens, a 10MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. While upfront it comes with a 40MP main camera.

Although the cameras of the Pixel 6 Pro is really good it still falls behind those of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Granted, when it comes to quality, it’s debatable which is better but when it comes to features and functionality, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the clear winner.

For example, the Pixel 6 Pro can shoot video in 4K resolution while the Galaxy S22 Ultra can shoot video in 8K resolution. The Pixel 6 Pro has a 48 telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom while the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 10MP periscope lens with 10x optical zoom.

My point is, for every feature and function you need the cameras of the Pixel 6 Pro for, the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers twice the value. You might argue that the Galaxy S22 Ultra camera features are a little extra but the truth is for quality photography and videography, you need these extra camera features.

Performance | Storage | RAM | 5G

Both the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro offers different performance levels. This is because both phones feature two different chipsets inside. The Pixel 6 Pro features the Google Tensor chip while the Galaxy S22 Ultra features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip (for selected market) and Samsung Exynos 2200 (international market).

Both on Geekbench score and real-life performance, the Snapdragon, and Exynos chip beats the Tensor chip. So, you can expect to get better performance when using the Galaxy S22 Ultra regardless of the chipset inside.

These two phones have support for 5G network connectivity. The RAM inside the Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra is 12GB with storage options ranging from 128 to 512GB. There are rumors of the Galaxy S22 Ultra having a 1TB version (yet to see one though).

The chipset inside the Pixel 6 Pro is focused mainly on software optimization and it’s pretty good at that. But, the chipset inside the Galaxy S22 Ultra is good in all areas. So, overall you’ll get better performance and user experience using the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Software

Both the Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra runs Android 12 out of the box. Samsung has promised 4 years of major software updates for the S22 Ultra. While the Pixel 6 Pro will get up to 5 years of software updates from Google.

When it comes to major software update plans, Google Pixel Phones are usually the best in the Android world. But, Samsung has this habit of rolling out stable updates quicker than Google.

Battery

The Galaxy S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro are powered by a 5,000mAh battery. Both phones have support for a wireless charger but the Pixel phone has 30W fast charge support while the Galaxy phone has 45W fast charge support.

The battery of the Galaxy S22 Ultra lasts longer than that of the Pixel 6 Pro. This is because its chipset is better optimized and takes less battery when it’s working.

So, between the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro, which is better? The truth is, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is miles ahead of the Pixel 6 Pro. It beats the Pixel 6 Pro in almost every area, well except when it comes to price.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a bigger display and combined with the S PEN is better for productivity. Its cameras are also more useful, it offers better performance, and better battery life thanks to the chipsets inside. Although the Pixel 6 Pro is a great device, the many reports of software bugs and lower performance place it behind the Galaxy phone.

If you’re asked to choose between the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro, without hesitation, pick the Galaxy S22 Ultra. If I’m to score both phones, I’ll give the Galaxy S22 Ultra (65%) and the Pixel 6 Pro gets (35%).
